Latex polymer systems are used to create latex paints and polymer film coatings various materials. Typically, they are as follows:


1. Spray dispersion latex particles on the surface of the material or immersing the surface-treated coagulant, the latex dispersion;

2. Removal solvent;

3. Thermal sealing film.


Some important properties of these films can be studied with a scanning probe microscope in the mode atomic force microscope. For example, surface roughness, porosity, ordered structure and, consequently, the relation of these parameters with the others. This is necessary for full understanding formation of latex films and the selection of colloidal systems and the corresponding parameters of deposition of particles on surface.

Atomic force microscope can obtain images latex films with high resolution. It does not require complicated sample preparation. AFM allows to investigate directly the working examples such films on the surface of materials. For laboratory studies of the film formed on the surface flat samples, such as mica, graphite, slides and cover glass.

One promising application latex polymer systems - Photonic Crystals. To study these materials (or sometimes metamaterials) use several methods of analysis, including scanning probe microscopes.
